I love this stuff.
If there is one thing we Brits know how to do, it is take the mickey. In fact, collectively mocking something or someone seems to be one of the few National activities that unites the country these days.
Take That singer, Gary Barlow, and his son, Daniel, are the latest targets of our national fun poking.
Back in 2023, Gary Barlow posted a photo of his family on Instagram for Father’s Day. In it, he stands next to – or under – his son. For some reason, over a year later, the picture resurfaced and people started to comment on the height difference.
Then the internet did what the internet does, and within hours there were countless hilarious memes about it being shared millions of times over.
I stumbled across them by chance, and I was on the floor laughing. They were genuinely funny, but something about how juvenlie the whole thing was really tickled me. Best of all, they were good natured. None of them were nasty, they were just silly.
Anyway, I wanted to collect my favourites so I can come back to them every 6 months or so for a good laugh, and thought I would share the enjoyment with you.
Funniest Barlow’s Son Memes
If you didn’t already know, the dictionary definition of a meme is:
“an image, video, piece of text, etc., typically humorous in nature, that is copied and spread rapidly by internet users, often with slight variations.”
Everything I saw that made me laugh was an image with a description, as you will see below. However, there were some brilliant comments online too.
I don’t know what they are called, but some of them were just as funny. Honestly, I was crying laughing.
My favourite response without a picture has to be this one:
“Fee, Fi, Fo, Fum, I am Gary Barlow’s son”
Say it in a deep voice, go on. See? Funny.
Anyway, here are some memes:

It didn’t stop at memes, either.
This guy even wrote new lyrics to Take That songs which referenced the height of Barlow’s son:

There are hundreds of them, some funnier than others, but these are some of the best for my money.
What makes them so good is that you can almost sense the person who made them giggling as they did it. The combination of how childish they are, how inventive they are, and how ridiculous the whole thing is has left thousands of people in stitches.
How Tall is Gary Barlow’s Son?
He’s 6ft 2in, so he is a big lad, but it’s not that huge.
However, what made the whole thing blow up is the fact that Gary Barlow himself is only 5ft 7in, so when they stand next to each other the effect is… heightened.
Sorry, Dad joke.
The average height for a man in the UK is 5ft 9in, so with Gary being a few inches shorter than average and his son being a lot inches taller than average, it looks funny.
There is only a 7inch difference between them in reality, but with Daniel standing slightly forward of his father in the photo that sparked the flood of memes, it created an optical illusion that made him seem even taller.
They Took It Well

When something goes as viral as this did, it’s impossible for the people at the centre of it not to find out, and according the several people who know the family they took it well.
So if you have been feeling bad for laughing your head off reading through those memes you can forgive yourself.
Lifelong friend of Gary Barlow, Eliot Kennedy, was interviewed by a media publication and said “Gaz has a great sense of humour. Dan is the same height as my son Jack, 23, and they went to the same nursery. We laugh and say, “What did they feed them there? Dan is a great kid and he’ll have taken it all in good humour too.”
Gary has even joked about the height difference between him and Daniel himself in the past.
In 2019, he shared a clip of them working out lifting weights together. He commented that people shouldn’t look at the difference in weights or notice that he was stood a little further forward to make the size gap smaller.
If he can joke about it himself, it’s safe to assume he’s happy for other people to joke about it too.
As for Daniel, he has no interest in a showbiz life. He studied medicine and has worked in the fitness industry in the past, so he may not exactly welcome all of the attention. That said, it hasn’t upset him, so if you want to have a giant laugh at these Gary Barlow’s son memes then go for it.
