My Mum, Your Dad Series 2 Starts 16th September – Full Cast Announced

My Mum Your Dad Series 2

It’s back!

My Mum, Your Dad was a guilty pleasure of mine during the summer of 2023. We both got sucked into the will they won’t they situations and were rooting for the couples by the end. It was nice to see people our own age getting another crack of the whip, so to speak.

Well the series 2 cast has been announced by ITV, and the first episode will air at 9pm on the 16th of September – and I am definitely here for it.

I wrote an article about this brilliant TV show at the end of July, looking into which couples were still together from the first series. So before series 2 kicks off I thought I would have a look at who is going to be entering the villa this time around, and maybe even try to predict a few potential couples.

ITV have released a trailer which you can see below to get you in the mood, and they have promised the same format with a few new twists, so it may even be an improvement on series 1.

Butterflies playing Baker Street – I love it.

Davina McCall is back in the hosting seat which is great news, and one big difference is that this time, the parents know their kids will be watching.

I should imagine there will be a couple of ‘surprise’ bombshells entering the show part way through, but the opening cast will be made up of this little lot.

Jenny and Malachi

Jenny and Malachi

Malachi applied for the show on behalf of his Mum, Jenny, because of how wholesome it was.

His Mum had mentioned how she wasn’t a fan of dating apps and found it difficult to meet people at her age, so he stepped in to help. It’s not like he didn’t have time, he’s a 19 year old student (just kidding, Malachi, I bet you’re reeaally busy 🙃).

Jenny is 51 and works as an Operation Manager in Cheshire where they live. She has been single for a whopping 14 years, despite attempts at finding someone. She has seen some of her friends find success using modern methods but it’s not for her, so she thinks ITV is her best hope.

She sounds like she could be difficult to please though, saying of herself:

“Being pragmatic, men fell into two categories for me: either needy or players”

She was referring to her time using dating apps, but does this speak to her general attitude when meeting potential partners for the first time?

Clare and Aimee

Clare and Aimee

At 53, Clare is the oldest of the parents on the show, but not by much. Her daughter, Aimee, is 26, and they both live in West Sussex.

They also look remarkably similar despite the 27 year age difference!

Clare sounds like someone with an incredibly kind heart. She is a Homemaker and Charity Worker, and always sees the best in people – which is why she consistently fails to spot red flags in the men that she dates, according to her own self analysis.

After 26 years as a single Mum she now has an empty house and is ready for a relationship again, and Aimee thinks My Mum, Your Dad is the perfect place to start looking. Most of her friends are married, so she isn’t meeting any eligible bachelors spending time with them.

Andy and Issy

Andy and Issy

Andy sounds like a brilliant man to be honest.

A 50 year old Property Investor who sold his business in order to better care for his elderly parents and his two daughters, he has spent his life prioritising his family over himself.

His daughter Issy, a 21 year old student studying in the West Midlands, will accompany him on the show, and she sounds as though she wants him to have a unique experience regardless of whether or not he finds love.

Andy says he often puts on a shield of ‘jovial light heartedness’ but deep down he is very sensitive, although he doesn’t often let people see that side of him. If he does let his guard down with anyone then, it’s a sure sign he is falling for them.

Christian and Lucas

Christian and Lucas

From Kendal in the Lake District, we have 46 year old Christian and his 17 year old son Lucas. Interestingly, they are both the youngest parent and the youngest child taking part in the show.

It’s a funny situation, because Christian has only been single for 2 years, but it was his ex-wife and his other son who encouraged him to apply for My Mum, Your Dad. Being the outgoing chap he is, Christian went for it and Lucas came along for the ride.

A Teacher and Mindset Coach, Christian is apparently a big soft romantic who is eager to find someone to ‘do life with’, while Lucas, an Estate Agent, describes him as being ‘made for TV’.

Why? Well, Christian also has his own YouTube channel, so he has no problem with an audience and h’s no stranger in front of the camera either.

Perhaps one of the characters on the show this year?

Maria and Livia

Maria and Livia

Maria, a 51 year old Events Coordinator and Radio Presenter (pretty cool, right?), lives in Surrey with her 19 year old daughter, Livia, who works as a Beauty Therapist.

Apparently turning 50 has put the brakes on Maria’s dating life, but Livia sheds a little more light on this situation. She says her Mum is way too fussy when choosing men and it leads her to make terrible choices. She’s hoping Maria gives the guys on the show more of a chance than she usually would.

Maria is very excited to be taking part by all accounts though, and she seems to have her head screwed on right. She will be very happy if she finds love, but she would see that as a special bonus. She’s most interested in spending time with new people and making some friends through the experience as a whole.

Danny and Ellis

Danny and Ellis

Stylish 49 year old, Danny, is a Sales Controller from Sussex.

He’s had a rough 7 years by the sounds of things, struggling with self confidence and not even attempting to ask anyone out on a date. He even said he couldn’t think of a reason why anyone would want to go out with him.

Then he decided to say ‘Yes’ to everything, even if it was out of his comfort zone, in an effort to get on top of his confidence again, and his son, Ellis, pounced on the opportunity and signed him up to My Mum, Your Dad.

You can tell he did it for the right reasons though, and he summed the show up brilliantly when he said:

“It was a happy show, no matter if you find anyone it seemed like everyone left happy because everyone got what they wanted whether it was from themselves or meeting true friends.”

A very astute observation from the 21 year old Chef.

I hope Danny hits the ground running. Everyone will be kind if he’s vulnerable I’m sure, but it’s unlikely to bag him a partner.

Vicky and Angharad

Vicky and Angharad

South Walians, Vicky (50) and Angharad (28) watched the first series together when it aired, and were such big fans Angharad decided it would be a fun thing for them to do together.

The Data Manager has also hinted that she likes the idea of having a hand in finding her Mum’s future love, so it sounds like Angharad won’t be shy of speaking up if anyone steps out of line.

Vicky is a mother to 3 grown up children, all of whom will soon be leaving home. So it feels like good timing for her to meet someone to share the next stage of her life with.

She said:

“I’ve been having no luck in trying to find someone myself, so I put my faith in ITV to scan the country for potential candidates.”

It will need to be someone well behaved though. Vicky is an Assistant Principle at a school, so she won’t stand for any silliness!

David and Tiana

David and Tiana

David is a 53 year old Property Developer while his daughter, 21 year old Tiana, is a student, both living in Bristol.

It sounds as though David was a little apprehensive about appearing on the show, but after watching the first series he realised it was about more than just dating. He’s here for the experience and to meet new people as much as to potentially meet a new flame.

Tiana says she signed him up because he has spent so long putting his life on hold to bring up his children, and now it was time to focus on himself a bit more.

Aww.

Who Will Couple Up?

Who Will Couple Up?

It’s hard to make serious predictions at this point, because despite the brief introductions above we barely know anything about the Mums and Dads taking part.

That said, we know from the last series that distance proved an issue even for the couples that seemed so strong at the end of series 1, so perhaps this year’s cast will be aware of that. If they are, some may write each other off just based on logistics.

In terms of personalities though, I can’t see Danny and Jenny getting together. She has already said she doesn’t like ‘needy’ men, so the slightest hint of Danny’s confidence issues could be a huge red flag for her.

Andy might be a better match for Jenny. He sounds like a successful man so he’s not needy and definitely can’t be accused of being a player given his history. They aren’t a million miles from each other either.

Andy and David both work in property, Andy as an investor and David as a developer, so even if they don’t find love they could always create a working partnership buying and refurbishing houses.

Danny and Clare might get on. They certainly sound like they would provide the security the other needs, and would be understanding of any trepidation at the start. They both live in Sussex too so it’s promising on paper – if they like the look of each other of course.

I also wonder if this year will see two of the kids getting closer than they were supposed to?
