500 not out for The Phoenix comic!

Several copies of The Phoenix comic with issue 500 taking centre stage.

Disclosure: We received a renewed annual subscription to The Phoenix comic.

My three children love The Phoenix. Ever since we were introduced to it last year, they’ve really looked forward to it landing on our doormat every week.

There’s something fantastic about getting mail addressed to you when you’re a kid. So much so that Thursday is now officially our ‘good post day’.

The Phoenix has really captured their imagination. Our fridge is a testament to this as it’s covered in drawings of favourite characters. They’ve also spent pocket money on books – we have two Looshkin and three Bunny Vs Monkey titles so far!

I really like it too. Anything that keeps kids both reading and not glued to screens for a while is a winner as far as I’m concerned, but that doesn’t even begin to do it justice.

I think the surreal humour of some regulars is brilliant. Ditto the clear affection for creativity and encouraging interaction with its devoted readership.

In case you’re unfamiliar with it, The Phoenix is a 32-page weekly comic for kids aged seven plus. Every issue is packed with thrilling and dramatic adventure stories, as well as funny comics and non-fiction.

There are also tips from professional artists, while subscriptions provide access to an online Skills Hub full of additional drawing tutorials and much more besides.

The Phoenix recently celebrated its 500th issue. No mean feat for a weekly publication, I’m sure you’ll agree. To mark this impressive milestone, it shared issue 500 for free on its website.

Win a six-month subscription!

Why not try four issues for just £1? Alternatively, I have a six-month subscription to The Phoenix comic (worth £59.99) up for grabs.

These do sound great, I’ve just been on their website. My kids are at the wrong age though, sadly.

Shared on social media though because it’s a great giveaway!

My eldest 2 were recently introduced to comic styles of literature with a book review last year and they really enjoyed it. I’ll have a nosey at this with them as they both love to draw too.

My middle son is particularly into comics so it definitely sounds like something he would love. I hadn’t heard of this one before so will look into it.

  4. Laura Corrall

My girls would love these comics. I’m with you anything to get them off the screens and anything that gets them reading more is always welcomed.
