If you’re anything like me, you worry about your home while you’re out. More specifically, I worry about the damage that my nemesis – our cat – can do to ours.
She loves knocking things over, sleeping where she shouldn’t and scratching furniture when we’re not there to stop her.
To be fair on her, she’s at her worst at Christmas. The tree is just too tempting. But as the festive season is still fresh in the memory, I fret about her trashing the place.
Step forward the Neos SmartCam. As its name suggests, it’s a smart home camera and it lives up to this moniker in more ways than one. As well as being a breeze to install and use via its companion app, it’s nice and affordable.
It retails at just £19.99 plus £4.99 next-day tracked delivery, which is significantly cheaper than a number of similar products. It’s very compact too.
Smaller than most smartphones, it can be installed pretty much anywhere without being obtrusive. It does need to be plugged in. However, it comes with a two-metre power cable. As a result, I was able to put it on top of a tall bookshelf in our front room with no problem.
Despite being small in terms of appearance, it’s big on image quality. It boasts 1080 full HD images, night vision and 8x digital zoom among a great many other features.
It also has motion detection and automatically captures 12-second clips as well as sends alerts to your smartphone.
What’s more, it automatically switches on and off as you leave and return to the room. Here are some incidents it recorded for me!
In addition, you can watch live streaming footage from afar, record or screenshot it and use the two-way audio feature to react. In my case, obviously, this is to tell off the cat.
I’ve been using it for a few days now and it’s reassuring to have the peace of mind that I can keep an eye on things when I’m out. It’s also good for capturing funny moments. This could be my ticket to something of mine finally going viral!
The most likely subjects are the cat and the toddler and it’s fascinating seeing what they get up to when our backs are turned.
So far, I’ve witnessed our four-legged lodger eating some abandoned toast and sitting on the dining room table.
Meanwhile, I’ve spotted youngest taking a closer look at the SmartCam – and nudging it – from one sofa and hiding things down the back of the other. This genuinely gives me hope that we’ll find some of her other caches of long-lost toys!
The Neos SmartCam is a great bit of kit that does the job with aplomb and at a price that you can’t argue with.
If you’ve been thinking about getting a smart home camera, this one is well worth considering. I’m very happy with mine and will continue to use it.
