The Christmas holidays are here and, if you’re anything like me, you’re not quite ready. In our case, we’re largely sorted in terms of shopping and so on, but not mentally or emotionally prepared.
This isn’t ideal as the break between terms two and three this year is the best part of three weeks. With three kids and eight years of parenting experience to my name, I know this is going to be fun but challenging.
Alongside all the happy family time, there will inevitably be sibling squabbles and tests of character. There’s no point in trying to avoid them so I’ve decided to embrace them.
After all, there are no winners in arguments over who utters the punchlines of cracker jokes or debates as to who is worst at digesting sprouts.
As games seem to be popular at this time of year, I thought it would be an idea to turn some common festive gripes into one.
So, without further ado, here is my Christmas Parenting Bingo.
So, instead of internally screaming or muttering the long form of FFS under my breath each time something goes awry, I’ll be punching the air in jubilation at ticking another one of the list. Or something like that.
Why not play along yourself? Download a copy and stick it on your fridge. That way, you can reward/console yourself with a swig of wine or beer for each one you tick off.
You may well have a full house over Christmas but can you get one here?
Any completed vertical, horizontal or diagonal line is a dubious winner. And if you experience all 16 of the listed incidents you win my heartfelt sympathy.
Eyes down. Good luck, my friends. We can do this!
Which festive challenges would make it onto your Christmas Parenting Bingo?
