Welcome back, Hofmeister!

A bottle of Hofmeister.

When things that were popular in the 1980s make a comeback, it isn’t always good news. Some fashion choices and musical acts should remain in that decade. This particular return, however, is a very welcome one as far as I’m concerned. If you’re as old as me, you may remember Hofmeister and George the Bear. Well they’re back!

Following a 13-year hiatus, it’s time to follow the bear once more. After such a long hibernation, George must be feeling thoroughly refreshed and that takes us nicely to Hofmeister itself.

Three bottles of Hofmeister.

It has been brought back as a 5% ABV Helles lager. Brewed in Bavaria and in line with the 1516 Reinheitsgebot Beer Purity Law, this is one very refreshing reboot.

It’s clear that great care has been taken to revive the much-loved brand. Indeed, it is produced by a fourth-generation, family-owned brewery on the edge of Ebersberger Forest in Bavaria.

Hofmeister is slow brewed using natural mineral water and locally-grown hops and barley. As well as boasting good quality ingredients, it’s made at a cooler temperature than most other beers. The result is a light and very enjoyable lager with subtle flavours.

A bottle and glass of Hofmeister.

It’s reminiscent of some of the fine beers I enjoyed during my A-Level German exchange to Bavaria. I took all aspects of the trip seriously – well it would have been rude not to show respect to a regional speciality.

It’s great to see Hofmeister back and with a fantastic new taste to boot. In short, it’s a comeback that I will quite literally drink to.

You can buy 12 bottles for £19.99 or 24 for £39.99 and, for a limited time, get free delivery with promo code FTBHOF17 at checkout while 2017 stocks last.

A selection of Hofmeister products.

Here’s your chance to win everything in the picture above. Namely, 12 bottles of Hofmeister, one Party Like a Bear-Varian Jacket (one size), one bottle opener and two pint glasses. Very nice too.
