Review: The LEGO Ninjago Movie Water Strider (70611)

It’s fair to say that we all absolutely loved The LEGO Ninjago Movie. It’s still the most common topic of conversation among the boys at the moment. Their sketch pads, meanwhile, are full of drawings of the characters and their vehicles.

There’s no substitute for something LEGO related than the toys themselves though. With that in mind, we were delighted to be sent The LEGO Ninjago Movie Water Strider set (70611) for review.

The cockpit of the Water Strider.

The set comprises just short of 500 pieces and has a suggested age range of eight to 14 years. It took us a very happy hour or so to construct. As with all LEGO models, I was in a constant state of awe at how it has been designed. It’s just so clever!

The Water Strider has four poseable legs as well as a couple of very cool features. The cockpit can rotate a full 360 degrees. What’s more, it fires studs when a spindle-like part at the back of the cockpit is rotated.

I love that LEGO models are becoming even more interactive like this. It’s perfect for recreating scenes from the film in which the ninjas battle Garmadon’s shark army!

It also comes with four minifigures. Namely ninja siblings Nya and Kai as well as enemies Shark Army Thug and Puffer. Of course, ninjas and henchmen wouldn’t be complete without weapons. Nya has a tasseled spear for duelling with adversaries while Kai comes with a pair of swords.

Meanwhile, Shark Army Thug has a spiked fish dagger and Puffer comes with a fish mace. Another example of how inventive LEGO is!

Much like the movie, this set is hugely enjoyable and the boys are going to have a lot of fun with it. A great set for LEGO fans young and old.
