Getting a pizza the action with Netflix

Some pizzas in front of a television screen showing Netflix.

There seem to be dedicated celebrations for everything these days. Last week, for example, was National Pizza Party Day. Now, admittedly, this observance is exclusive to America but why shouldn’t we get a pizza the action? Sorry, not sorry.

We love watching family films together and there are plenty of great choices on Netflix at the moment. These include Cloudy With a Chance Of Meatballs 2, Fantastic Mr Fox and Matilda.

Pizza is the perfect compliment to entertainment like this so, on the suggestion of Netflix Stream Team, we paired our food and film.

The boys hadn’t seen Chicken Run before so we decided to watch that. I have to admit that our pizza topping theme was fairly loose. They are becoming more aware of where meat comes from. As a result, they didn’t want to have any poultry on their pizzas. Given the storyline, I thought that was fair enough!

Instead, we bought a selection of ingredients including ham, pineapple, olives, mozzarella and chorizo. It was great to see them choosing things that they wouldn’t have touched a year or so ago. That’s another reason why I love pizza so much – it’s  such a good way of subtly introducing new flavours and textures.

They couldn’t wait to get started and were soon putting the toppings on their pizzas. I say ‘putting’. ‘Piling’ would be more accurate. They won’t win any prizes for presentation – nor will I for mine, for that matter – but it was nice to see so much on them.

A short while later, the pizzas were ready and the film was underway. Both were very much enjoyed. The plates were clean before Rocky made his unceremonious entrance.

A successful family film afternoon with everyone well fed. Can’t argue with that.

Other things we’ve enjoyed on Netflix of late include the brand new Season 3 of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. We loved the first two seasons and this one is right up there with them.

Looking ahead, we can’t wait for Orange Is the New Black Season 5. Particularly after the cliffhanger at the end of Season 4. If you still need to catch up on the excellent first four seasons, you have until 9 June!

What have you been enjoying on Netflix lately?
