I don’t know about you but, for me, evenings at this time of year are all about watching films under a blanket with some warming comfort food to enjoy. That’s where Iceland and the #PowerOfFrozen come into play! As well as being tasty and convenient, its chicken nuggets are made with 100% chicken breast fillet. They’re versatile too – more on that shortly.
As always, it was easy to find what I wanted in my local store. The chicken nuggets come in bags of 32 and 75; I wanted to try them out with a variety of dishes and sauces so went for the latter. They only take around 15 minutes to cook, so they’re ideal for evenings in when you want to start watching a film quickly in the hope of seeing it all before a child wakes up!
I think the nuggets are delicious and am clearly not alone in this. A blind taste test found that Iceland chicken nuggets are as good as McDonald’s Chicken McNuggets for taste, texture and quality.
To show off the versatility of Iceland’s nuggets, I tried my hand at some simple but tasty recipes. And what better way of doing so than taking inspiration from all around the world? I’ve managed to include ideas from Europe, the Americas, China and India. Of course, there are loads more things you could try, but hopefully these will provide some inspiration.
Just like the lemon chicken you can get at your local Chinese restaurant but at a fraction of the price – this is proper fakeaway territory! You could make your own lemon sauce, but I have to confess that I bought a jar this time as speed and convenience are the order of the day.
With Mango Chutney
While wandering around Iceland getting everything, I wondered whether the nuggets would go with mango chutney as a dip. And they do indeed! You could, of course, make a curry instead. I think the breaded coating would take the flavour nicely.
Chicken Caesar Salad
If you’re trying to eat more greens as part of your new year’s resolutions, this is a great way of livening them up. Simply add some sliced chicken nuggets to the salad and add some caesar sauce. Delicious and nutritious!
With Tex Mex Dips
With three different dips to choose from, at least one was bound to complement the nuggets. I liked them best with the tomato salsa, but they went well with the soured cream & chive and Guacamole too. If you wanted to try a larger main meal from this corner of the world, I reckon they’d go brilliantly in fajitas.
Chicken Nugget Sliders
Another easy but tasty snack to enjoy during an evening. Place four cooked nuggets in a bap, add some mozzarella and pop back in the oven for a minute or two to melt the cheese. Cut into four and add the sauce of your choice. Job done.
