One year old already!

A happy girl who is one year old already!

It’s gone in a blur but Amelie is one year old already. I remember the first year passing quickly with both Dylan and Xander, but this has to be a new record. Yesterday was a year since her dramatic arrival. Despite her worrying start to life, everything has been pretty straightforward since and she’s a happy little girl.

Her biggest progression in the last few weeks has been walking. Within days of my last monthly update she had nailed it. She now toddles around everywhere, looking for random objects to pilfer. At the moment, the airing rack seems to be her favourite haunt. I wonder whether she’s been observing the cat as she has started stealing our socks.

Another of her new-found pastimes is to offer us things she has collected on her travels before swiftly withdrawing them, cackling and trying to run away. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. She’s an evil genius in the making. To prove the genius side of things, here she is solving a Rubik’s Cube while waiting for her dinner.

She has obviously prioritised walking over talking as she hasn’t picked up many new words since last month. The notable exception to this is ‘cake’ which she says with crystal clarity. Looking at this tweet I posted earlier in the month, it would appear that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree!

She is, however, perfecting her impression of a parrot and will merrily repeat her approximation of things we say to her, so I wouldn’t be surprised if she has a fair few new words next month.

Elsewhere, the diva tendencies I mentioned last month have continued unabated. As well as giving us a look – and accompanying cry, of course – that says “Don’t you know who I am?” every time we tell her to stop doing something she shouldn’t, she now throws herself to the floor. Just like certain footballers in opposition penalty areas. So a diva and a diver then.

Thankfully, her dominant characteristic is her funny side. She loves getting people’s attention and making them laugh, playing chase with me and hiding behind the curtains. I’m looking forward to plenty more Amelie antics over the next month!
