I love good food but am the first to admit that I’m not very good at attempting new things. There are a few dishes that I do well, but I stay in my comfort zone. It was an easy decision to make when Everdine offered me a trial of its impressive looking delivery service.
Historically, frozen meals for one have had an unflattering reputation. From uninspiring offerings unpopular with office colleagues to the kind of purchase that may get singletons a sympathetic smile at the supermarket checkout.
Those from Everdine’s subscription service, however, prove that this doesn’t have to be the case.
Everdine’s mission is nice and straightforward: to make clean eating simple. All of its meals are prepared by chefs who have trained at Michelin-starred restaurants. They use good quality ingredients and no artificial preservatives. As the meals arrive frozen, it’s simply a matter of putting them in the freezer.
The meals were delivered in a nice, sturdy box and with some innovative sustainable packaging to keep everything frozen. It was easy to prepare them too – the microwave took the strain. Some dishes required the oven too, but not for long.
All of the dishes we received were fantastic. We could taste the different flavours – as well as the quality of ingredients – in each. They were a lot nicer than meals I’ve had in certain restaurants. I wouldn’t have been able to tell that they had been frozen if I didn’t already know.
I really enjoyed the Cherry and Hoisin Duck with Wilted Greens. The Smoked Chicken Fajitas were great too. Kate’s favourites were the Baked Mackerel with Tomato and Fennel Ragout, and Baked Butternut Squash Falafels with Roasted Ratatouille Vegetables.
In conclusion, Everdine definitely delivers on its promises. The meals were, without exception, delicious. We could tell they were made from decent, natural ingredients.
The convenience factor was also most welcome – this review came at the right time as the last couple of weeks in our house have been utter chaos. It was nice not having to do nearly as much in the kitchen at the end of each day!
