Disclosure: I received these Playfoam sets to review and keep.
Did you know that Sunday is National Children’s Day? The initiative is all about the importance of a healthy childhood so that kids grow up to be happy, well-adjusted adults. To mark the day, Learning Resources is focussing on the role that play and creativity have and sent us a couple of packs of Playfoam to review.
Playfoam is a mess-free material that can be used again and again without drying out like play dough does. It can be used straight from the packaging and only sticks to itself, so there’s no need to worry about getting it out of clothes or carpet – again, another major plus compared to similar materials.
Its bead-like structure lends itself nicely to honing fine motor skills and it’s suitable for use for children aged three and up. It can be squashed, rolled and stretched into any shape, allowing children to explore their creative sides.
I often worry that Dylan and Xander are getting too much screen time and not playing with ‘real’, tactile things enough as a result, so it was good to see them opening the packs and getting creative. As well as the combo pack which includes eight pods of colourful Playfoam, we were sent a Dino Magic themed set.
Of course, the dinosaurs were soon ‘extinct’ and turned into other things but I thought this was a useful way of showing children the kind of things they can make. In fact, most of what they made ended up squashed and repurposed before I could get pictures, but that’s a good thing as they were clearly enjoying playing with it!
I was pleasantly surprised to see that none of the creations that Dylan and Xander came up with were characters from their favourite video games!
And here’s your chance to win both the combo pack and the Dino Magic pack for your kids. Just enter via the widget below. You can use as many of the entry methods as you like. Good luck!
