Then and now: know the drill

An image of a little boy with a toy truck alongside a recreation of the image with another little boy and the same toy.

This post is the first in a sporadic series that my mum thought would be a nice idea. And I agree! I’m going to be persuading Dylan and Xander to help recreate pictures from my childhood. Then and now, if you will.

The little boy on the left is yours truly in 1983. I had recently turned four and was proudly posing with my new toy truck. It could be assembled and disassembled with different toy drill bits.

Dylan is definitely a mini me in terms of behavioural traits, but I’ve always thought he looks more like Kate. However, when my mum saw him playing with the same toy truck on the same stool – albeit with a new covering – at the weekend and hastily dug out the photo album to point out the resemblance, I had to agree.

In hindsight, I should have got down to his eye level and put a sheet over the radiator to truly match the original, but you get the idea.

Have you ever recreated any of your childhood pictures with your children?

I hate to say this, but your son’s got better taste in shirts than you had in jumpers as a four year old! 🙂 I appreciate that you may well not have had much say in the matter.

I like the idea of recreating photos in this way. I haven’t really set out to do it yet, but did a blog post a while ago in which I posted some photos of my son as he is now and what I was like at a similar age. Here’s the link in case you want to have a look: https://dadsthewayilikeit.wordpress.com/2014/07/14/like-father-like-son/
