I’m going to BritMums Live!

Yep, this blog post does pretty much what it says in the title. In a few months’ time, I’m off to BritMums Live. Having thoroughly enjoyed the last two, I’m really looking forward to it.

I’ve already got it all planned out in my head. I’ll be boarding a train with Maxïmo Park blasting in my ears. Via an MP4 player, that is. My favourite band don’t actually reside in my aural canals.  I’ll also have an overpriced coffee as I follow the same pre-conference ritual of the last couple of years.

I’ll then be propping up the bar at All Bar One for a cheeky pint or two, before venturing into the venue and being a little less nervous due to the strategically-imbibed alcohol. Not that I’m a creature of habit or anything.

I’m looking forward to seeing the friends I’ve made at the last couple of conferences and also to meeting some other bloggers I admire but haven’t met yet. I’m also eagerly anticipating taking to the stage as one of the speakers at this year’s event.

Especially as it’ll be alongside my friends Darren, Lewis and John from the Love All Dads Podcast. We’re going to be doing a live version of our weekly show as well as giving tips on how to go about producing a podcast. I’ll mostly be trying not to swear or call Darren Mary Poppins. We’ll see how that goes on the day though.

I was lucky enough to be on the dads’ panel a couple of years ago. Although it was fun to be part of, the number of people who turned up to the session was quite low. I think we were up against advanced WordPress, which was always going to be a tough opponent. So it would be great to see a few more people smiling back at us this time.

If you’re going for the first time this year, my best piece of advice is to just not worry about whether you’re giving off the impression of being as socially skilled as Mr Bean.

I’m sure that, like me, everyone was a bit nervous about meeting people they’ve only spoken to online before. And, by the way, none of them speaks like him, although I sadly do. But none of them showed it and everyone is so friendly and approachable.

Plus there’s plenty of drinking on Friday night as well as the promise of an uninterrupted night’s sleep afterwards, so what’s not to like?

See you there!

Thanks Katie. I won’t lie – that is genuinely one of the things I’m most looking forward to!

Thanks Suzanne – looking forward to seeing you there. Us dads will try not to be so unclassy as to get pizza delivered to a hotel bar this year! 😉
