Christmas gift guide 2017

As we now have one month in which to successfully complete our festive shopping, I think it’s just about safe to mention the celebration by name. Yes, Christmas will be upon us soon so it’s time for my Christmas gift guide 2017!

Canvas print by Zippi.

Zippi photo canvas

I was really impressed with the iPad cover Zippi sent last year so it’s great to include something else from its range. This time I went for a photo canvas. Amelie hadn’t had a portrait taken until now so, after an impromptu photoshoot, I ordered this 12 x 16 canvas. The delivery was incredibly fast, the quality once again excellent and the humour in the confirmation email raised a smile too.

A wooden toy rocket by Hape.

Hape Four-Stage Rocket Ship

We’ve had a few different Hape toys over the years and I’ve always been impressed by the quality of them. This rocket is no exception and I know Amelie is going to have hours of fun making up stories with it. It comes with 20 pieces and has plenty of interactive features including a pulley-operated lift. It didn’t take long to assemble either – just a matter of slotting pieces together and securing them with six screws.

The Game of Things...

The Game of THINGS…

I’m really looking forward to playing The Game of THINGS… with my extended family on Christmas Day! I find that the best games are often the simplest and this falls into the “I wish I had come up with this” category. Each round, players take their cue from the cards and write down their answers. Then it’s simply a matter of guessing who wrote what. You can keep a score of who the best guessers are or just enjoy the inevitable laughter.

Gift in a Tin Dippy.

Gift in a Tin

Dylan and Xander had a lot of fun putting together this model of The Natural History Museum’s former resident Dippy the Diplodocus! In the tin are over 60 pieces which, once assembled, form a 46cm-long scale model. Also included are instructions, glue and dinosaur fact cards. What’s more, sales of this model help support the fine work of the iconic museum.

A copy of This Is Me, Full Stop.

This Is Me, Full Stop.

Punctuation is often taken for granted these days but, if you’re anything like me, it matters. Greatly. This Is Me, Full Stop. is a fun coffee table book for all the grammar geeks out there. It offers a great combination of wit, design and typography that are sure to be enjoyed by those who are sticklers for the proper use of apostrophes and who still use semicolons.

RRP: £14.99

Little Tikes Remote Control Bumper Cars.

Little Tikes Remote Control Bumper Cars

These were obviously sent for the kids but I have to admit that Kate and I have had just as much fun with them! The object is to send your opponent’s driver flying from their car by bumping into it. Think remote control cars meet medieval jousting and you get the idea. They require a fair few batteries so don’t forget to stock up on those too.

RRP: £39.99

Grooming products by SCRUBD.

SCRUBD

I’ve been becoming more aware of my face starting to look its age recently and don’t want it to overtake my actual years! This gear from SCRUBD, then, is very welcome indeed. The oakmoss and spearmint soap is great for refreshing skin and smells amazing! Meanwhile, the anti-ageing face moisturiser and eye gel can help reduce the appearance of wrinkles. The latter can also reduce puffiness and dark patches. Seven years of sleep deprivation have left me badly in need of these products!

RRP: from £17

Peppa Pig Muddy Puddles.

Peppa Pig Water Filled Muddy Puddle

Every self-respecting toddler enjoys jumping up and down in muddy puddles but often to the chagrin of their parents. It can’t be just me who gets annoyed on rainy days! This inflatable eliminates the need for a change of clothes and, indeed, the wearing of boots but will be as enjoyable for little Peppa fans everywhere.

RRP: £12.99

TrackR Pixel.

TrackR pixel

If you are forever losing your keys, this is just the job. Amelie is always stealing and hiding Kate’s from her bag and putting them in different places so this Bluetooth-powered TrackR pixel will serve her well. Basically a 21st century equivalent of the devices that responded to whistling, the TrackR pixel pairs with a smartphone app. Pressing a button on the app causes the alarm to sound. Problem solved!

RRP: £24.99

Elmer matching game.

Elmer matching game

Everybody’s favourite patchwork elephant is the subject of this matching pairs game. We’ve just started reading Amelie the Elmer books and she loves the colourful illustrations so this will be a great way of introducing her to this much-loved memory game. Her attention to detail is incredible, so I don’t fancy my chances of winning!

RRP: £6

The LEGO Ninjago Movie The Essential Guide.

The LEGO Ninjago Movie The Essential Guide

We absolutely loved The LEGO Ninjago Movie so it’s no surprise that Dylan and Xander have mentioned anything to do with it on their wishlists! THE LEGO® NINJAGO® Movie™ The Essential Guide will be a welcome addition to their bookshelf. Packed with information about the characters, vehicles and locations. It includes numerous stills from the film too, so will remind them of favourite moments.
