I’m a finalist in the Sussex Digital Awards!

I’m delighted to announce that Diary of the Dad is a finalist in the blog category of the Sussex Digital Awards!

The awards take place in April and celebrate those that have used digital media to achieve greater things, so I’m proud to be acknowledged as doing so.

When I quit my job just over 18 months ago, I wasn’t in a good place. I was tired, stressed and miserable. My job had really taken it out of me and I wasn’t myself.

The plan was to go freelance and make a little extra out of blogging. Of course, I had always wanted this to become my full-time job but never thought it would actually happen.

Things have turned out brilliantly though. Diary of the Dad is now my full-time job. What started as a weekly record of family life is now providing for five of us.

It has also enabled me to achieve a much better work-life balance. I no longer miss events at school and can fit work around other commitments. I was even able to effectively take extended paternity leave when Amelie was born.

If you’d have told me all this when I started out six years ago, I wouldn’t have believed you. It’s amazing where blogging can take you.

This is proof that you can achieve great things when you put your mind to it. This sounds corny, I know, but it has proved to be true in my experience.

I have been driven by a determination to make things work. I like my new working life and don’t want to go back to the old one.

So the purpose of this post – other than to blow my own trumpet a little – is to say a big thank you to everyone who reads Diary of the Dad. A blog is nothing without its readers, after all.

Thanks very much for reading!
